Birmingham YSA

Hey everyone! This last week has been great! A lot has happened.
So first off, we had transfers. I was transferred from Montgomery to the Birmingham YSA branch. My new companion is Elder Davis. He’s from Nevada and actually came out with me so I know him from the MTC. He’s a great missionary and we’ve been having a great time here in Birmingham.

Goodbye Montgomery

I’m getting transferred. 😦 I’ve loved Montgomery so I’m pretty sad to be leaving. I’ve met some great people and made some awesome memories. This place will definitely be missed!

On Tuesday we had exchanges so I was with Elder Cluff. We ate dinner with this older lady and I’m pretty sure her food gave me food poisoning lol.

Boston and King

We met a lot of little kids this week while walking the streets. Lots of opportunities for street ball. Haha the kids in Alabama crack me up. We walked up to some kids and one of them asked if i played for the Boston Celtics and then we played with them and they kept calling me Boston and my comp King for the Sacramento Kings. Then they asked for autographs and pictures. I signed a kids forehead.

Easters

Alright so here’s some things from my week!

I finished the Book of Mormon again this week! The message of remember always sticks out to me. Constantly the prophets tell the people to remember. If we don’t remember our spiritual experiences we are so quick to forget them.

Smart Phonez

So our mission is now a technology mission so I now have a smartphone and we are using Facebook to contact members and investigators. We can use it for pretty much whatever as long as its being used to fulfill our purpose. All of our record keeping is moved to the smartphone so we have to spend 2 hours a day entering in old information into the area book app until its all in.. we have 2 area books so this is gonna take a while.

Jordans

Well those two bible referrals that we had appointments with this week didn’t go through. We set up another appointment with each of them later in the week and same thing happened.

Yesterday we had a lady  named Nell who we met a month or so ago come to church. She lives in Union Springs 45 minutes away but is in town taking care of her aunt. Her aunt lives around the corner from the Carter Hill building and we had stake conference so it all worked out. She couldn’t find her dress shoes so she wore her Jordans. She enjoyed it and very excitedly told us she wanted to talk with the pastor and hurried up front after and talked to one of the members of the stake presidency. We’ve been trying to help her understand the restoration but she just doesn’t get it and we don’t know how we can be more clear that there is one true church.

You’re skrong boy

samuel.furgeson@myldsmail.net Week 80 – Alabama Birmingham Mission Montgomery Alabama So this week we had two media referrals for people who requested free bibles and they are actually somewhat interested in learning more about the restored gospel. We gave them their bibles and shared the Book of Mormon with them and gave them each one. We…

Hot Fish

samuel.furgeson@myldsmail.net Week 79 – Alabama Birmingham Mission Montgomery Alabama We had interviews with President Sainsbury this week but he was 2 hours behind and we had an appointment so we waited 2 hours and had a 5 minute interview. We met with Franchezaka and we were planning on teaching her the restoration but she had…

Baja Angels

Yesterday we went downtown to do some contacting and saw a group of people dressed in jean attire. We watched from a distance and thought they were making a music video. We went over and started talking to them. Turns out they’re the Baja Angels “Baja like you know what Taco Bell is?” is how they described it. We got 2 new potential investigators from their group lol Elder Anderson told us to work with people 16-25 he would be so proud.

Life’s a Beach

Another week gone by. It’s been a good one. So this week we had transfers. Elder Braaksma got transferred to Anniston and I stayed in Montgomery and got Elder Beach. He’s from Logan Utah and has been out about 6 months.

Snow round 2

What a week!

So we got 3 inches of snow. Thats the second time we’ve gotten snow this transfer which is really abnormal for Alabama. Because of the ice and snow Montgomery like shut down and the highways were closed and we were told to stay inside most of the day.

We got our car back Thursday which was a huge blessing.

No car no problem?

Roll Tide!! Alabama are national champions again!

Our car has been in the shop for a week now. There was a dent in the side from last year that the mission wanted fixed. We miss her dearly. We’ve made it work though. We’ve had a lot more time to walk or ride our bikes. I’ve actually enjoyed the biking its nice getting some exercise  in. Yesterday we walked 11 miles according to my fitbit!
