Week 45 – Alabama Birmingham Mission

Northport, Alabama

800 Energy Center Blvd Apt. 205

Northport, AL 35473

Elder Honn had been saving a suit to burn in celebration of finishing his mission so we thought of which member would let us burn something in their backyard and the Brannons came to mind and they happily had us over.

We drove to Birmingham with 3 seats filled but came back with only 2 filled. Elder Honn is now gone.

Also my first companion Elder Matthews finished his mission. It’s crazy it’s almost been a year since I got here!

We had some cool experiences this week:

We called a recent convert Sister Thomas (she was baptized at the beginning of the year) to see if we could visit her and she said yes and while there she told us she was thinking about if and when we would come see right when we called! It was a great visit and we hope to get her coming to church more regularly and into the temple in the future!

Joann from the story last week hadn’t called us so we stopped by to visit her and she was actually about to text us! I know she was telling the truth too cause she knew the first 3 digits of our phone number cause she was just looking at it!

After church yesterday we went to see some part member families and chose someone on the list to go see. Once we arrived at the address we realized it was the Murrays house and we had been there a month or so ago because our bishop wanted us to see how they were doing. They’re an older couple and we knocked and they invited us in. Brother Murray wasn’t feeling well and had been in a lot of pain the past couple days. He requested a blessing and Sister Murray wanted a blessing of comfort. We gladly ministered to them and as I pronounced blessings from our Father in Heaven upon him I felt the words given to me in the moment of what I was supposed to say. When giving Sister Murray the blessing of comfort the same thing happened. God led us there at just the right time to minister to them!

There was this lady named Andrea Elder Tausinga and I met while tracting with the few minutes we had before our dinner appointment. The lady said she was “genuinely interested” we had finally set up an appointment with her where she and her husband would be there. I thought she was golden, she had just had a kid and said it made her believe that there must be a God. In my head I had it planned out, baptism in 3 weeks, next year I’d go to their sealing right before heading home. Buttttttt when we showed up for our appointment this note was on the door 😦

I thought the 4th of July would be big here but its not. You’d think people would be more excited about blowing things up. We don’t have plans yet so we’ll see what we end up doing.

7 But behold, verily, verily, I say unto you that mine eyes are upon you. I am in your midst and ye cannot see me;

8 But the day soon cometh that ye shall see me, and know that I am; for the veil of darkness shall soon be rent, and he that is not purified shall not abide the day.

9 Wherefore, gird up your loins and be prepared. Behold, the kingdom is yours, and the enemy shall not overcome.

    Elder Cooper,
I really enjoy reading your experiences on your Mission, and think of what I missed for not delaying my College studies.
Also, being in the South also brings back many experiences I had dealing with the people who have spent their lives in the South.
It sounds like you are doing a great job to find those who need a change in their lives.

Keep up the good job, the time flies and you will be back home before you know it.
